Don't just tag along for the ride... Profit from it !

Reputation isn't what you think of yourself... it's what others think of you. While the battle between "brand" and "product" rages, what's becoming increasingly important is "delivery". How consistently and effectively has your property been able to deliver what's been expected from it?

Sites like TripAdvisor, MyTravelGuide and IGouGo, and Yahoo Travel are now encouraging visitors to post reviews of the properties they stay at. And people are posting reviews... in rather large numbers. TripAdvisor aggregated over 6 million reviews in the past year alone. So what does this mean for you?

Well, there's good news and bad news. Given that 40% of all people who book rooms online check out the review of the property at some review site or the other, these review sites have a powerful influence on the way your property is perceived.

The good news is that hotel conversion rates have been shown to double in cases where a property consistently scored positive reviews. Positive reviews serve as an excellent unbiased recommendation for your peoperty... something a guest is more likely to believe than what he/she might read in an advertisement.

The bad news is that by the same token, bad reviews will turn people away from your property. The best marketing and advertising campaign cannot mask the damage that negative guest reviews can do to your revenue.

However, there are ways to improve the situation. We advise our clients on ways to address negative reviews and in certain cases, turn them into positive experiences that reflect well on the property. In our experience, most property managers aren't aware of these channels. Worse, a lot of them aren't even aware of these reviews. That should change.

So make these review sites one of your best sources for business. Ask us how and we'll gladly share our knowledge with you as our clients.

Fact: Online bookings should exceed 60% of revenue
